Further calls for independent review at Sports Direct AGM

The Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) has backed calls for an independent review of Sport Direct’s treatment of employees.

The LAPFF said it supported trade union Unite’s resolution for an independent review at the sports retailer’s annual general meeting, which will be held on 7 September.

Councillor Kieran Quinn, who chairs the fund said: “LAPFF’s hope is that an independent human capital strategy review will rectify any workplace practices deemed inappropriate and will help Sports Direct to move forward from the reputational and financial damage it has suffered.”

Earlier this week, City AM reported that Sports Direct shareholders had been urged to oppose the re-election of Mike Ashley to the board amid concerns the founder wields too much power over the board.
