Copenhagen trade show Gallery is to follow in the footsteps of Pure London by launching an exhibition in China later this year.
Gallery, which showcases menswear and womenswear brands, has leased a 4,306 sq ft section of stands within the larger trade show Mode Shanghai’s exhibition space.
The two shows will take place concurrently at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong on October 15-17, during Shanghai Fashion Week, which runs from October 15-23.
Gallery plans to take around 30 Scandinavian brands to the Shanghai show, although founder and chief executive Christian Gregersen said it was too early to say which ones would be included given the contract was only signed last week.
Womenswear show Pure Shanghai will also take place for the first time at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on the later dates of October 20-22. Chinese clothing and accessories fair Chic will also move from Beijing to Shanghai from March 2015. “Shanghai is becoming the fashion centre of China,” said Gregersen.
Gregersen hopes to expand Gallery’s presence in China after this year, but said he would do so in partnership with Mode Shanghai and Shanghai Fashion Week, rather than going it alone. “To be in China you need a Chinese partner,” he said. “It’s quite a difficult place.”
Separately, Gallery is planning to launch a virtual online showcase of its exhibitors ahead of the January 2015 edition of its Copenhagen show. It has opened photo studios in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Madrid, to upload images of the 20,000 items.
Gregersen said this would help buyers “prepare like never before”, hopefully leading to more orders.
