German footwear fair GDS has undergone a massive overhaul in a bid to secure the show’s weekend datelines until 2011.
GDS has shrunk its size by 5% to 132,000sq metres and moved to the west side of the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition park.
Organisers have also rejigged the core halls to make the show, which next season runs from September 12-14, easier to navigate. Wellness & Comfort and Young Fashion have been replaced by Essential, Urban Active, Urban Fresh, Urban Spirit and Urban Authentic.
Essential will host comfort-led brands such as Gabor and Ara, with the new Urban areas splitting young fashion brands into narrower sub-sectors. Brands including Kickers will show in Urban Authentic, with brands such as El Naturalista in Urban Spirit.
The White Cubes area, for directional fashion labels, will remain in place, but there is a new bags and accessories hall. A new Upper Style hall will cater for the most expensive brands, while Superior will host mid-priced international fashion brands. The GDS sourcing show, Global Shoes, will be given a standalone presence outside of the main show.
Director of GDS Kirsten Deutelmoser said: “A move to new halls combined with restructuring measures may not be approved by all of our customers. However, I’m sure the new GDS will be accepted very well by the market.”
