General election week spells dip for fashion sales

Mixed weather and general election uncertainty led high street fashion sales to dip by 8% last week, compared to the same period last year.

Like-for-like clothing sales were down 8.95% on the year for the week to 11 June, while footwear fell 2%, BDO’s High Street Sales Tracker indicates.

The dip follows two weeks of positive growth. While there were some positive results last week, 71% of respondents reported negative like-for-like sales.
