GFW expands awards reach

Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) has launched a new award for 2010 that will celebrate the most inspiring personalities in the fashion industry.

The GFW Inspiration Award will be voted for by GFW students and will acknowledge a contribution to the industry made by an ‘inspirational figure’ who could come from a modelling or design background or from the music industry.

GFW has signed retailers Reiss and Austin Reed and knitwear brand John Smedley up to its Protégé Project, which supports students with work placements. The trio join Karen Millen and John Lewis, which are already members of the programme.

It has also signed four new international universities to participate. Munich-based Academy Mode and Design, Esmod in Paris, the Amsterdam Fashion Institute and Academy of Art and Design - Institute Fashion Design Basel.

GFW has been running for 19 years. The next edition takes place from June 6 to 10 at Earls Court 2.
