Ghost founder to launch own label

Ghost founder Tanya Sarne will launch her own womenswear label for spring 08.

Sarne, who left Ghost in May last year, will launch a collection called Handwritten in September. She has teamed up with New York-based designer Gary Graham, who has his own womenswear range of the same name in the US.

Sarne told Drapers: "I'll be shrinking and dyeing the garments and working in viscose, which mirrors Ghost's process, but that's where the similarity ends. Handwritten will be more fashionable and edgy."

The 45-piece range will include dresses, tops and trousers, and will retail from £100 to £400. "It's a luxury line, but we'll try to keep prices low," said Sarne. "It won't be as expensive as Matthew Williamson, but more in line with See by Chloe."

Sarne has opened a showroom on Kensal Road in west London and hopes to secure at least 50 wholesale accounts in the UK and 100 overseas in her first season.

"We've had interest from Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Brown Thomas and Liberty," she said. "I'm also targeting international markets including Europe and the US."

She has ruled out the possibility of opening any standalone stores in future.
