Google adds ‘real-time footfall tracker'

Google has added a new feature to its ”Popular Times” function, which allows users to see how busy a place is in real time.

The company introduced Popular Times to Google Search and Maps last year. The new function comes ahead of Black Friday and the busy festive period.

“Whether you’re rushing to pick up a last minute gift or seeking a lively bar for some festive spirit, check Popular Times for a sneak preview of what to expect when you arrive,” said Google product manager Jamie Aspinall.

Google has also added a new feature to allow retailers to specify specific service hours for different departments and special services, such as a restaurant in a department store which is open later than the main store.
