Greenwoods' owner mulls Moss Bros bid

The owner of menswear chain Greenwoods is planning a counter bid for the Moss Bros business, according to reports.

John Hanson, who owns the Bradford-based menswear chain and hire business Greenwoods, is understood to already hold a stake of up to 4% in Moss Bros. He has approached other shareholders, including Laura Ashley, for help to back a bid to rival the 42p a share offer from Icelandic investor Baugur.

He is also understood to be considering buying Baugur's stake as an alternative to a bid.

Some shareholders including members of the Moss and Gee founding families are opposed to Baugur's £40 million offer for Moss Bros.
