Growth slows at Bonmarché in 'challenging' market

Bonmarché has reported like-for-like sales increased by 3.8% for the 13 weeks to December 27.

Growth has slowed from the like-for-like sales increase of 6.4% for the 39 weeks or year to date.

Online sales rose by 34.9% for the 13-week period, down from 44.4% across the 39-week period to date.

The value womenswear and menswear retailer, which trades from 282 stores and online, said full year expectations are unchanged.

Chief executive Beth Butterwick said: “We are satisfied with Bonmarché’s third quarter performance in a challenging, promotionally-driven market. Gross remained under pressure, but we continued to make positive like-for-like sales gains.

“Much of the challenge in the clothing market was due to the prolonged mild weather, which began in September and continued until mid-December.”
