Gucci creative director to receive International Designer Award

The 2015 International Designer Award will be presented to Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele at this year’s British Fashion Awards.

Michele became creative director in January this year, marking a shift in aesthetic for Gucci, and has since presented four collections to critical acclaim.

He was brought into the Gucci fold by Tom Ford in 2002, joining the design team, after holding the role of senior accessories director at Fendi.

British Fashion Council chairman Natalie Massenet said: “Alessandro Michele is a global phenomenon at Gucci. His exciting eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends.

“It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the brand so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience, bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store.”

The awards will be held at the London Coliseum on November 23.
