Guess Europe has appointed London agent Motiv as its wholesale representative to help it extend its UK presence.
Motiv will represent the US denim brand’s Guess Jeans line, Guess by Marciano and the Guess accessory collections.
The deal forms a part of the growth strategy for the UK market. In the UK Guess has 22 stores and is stocked in indies and department stores, with 150 accounts including House of Fraser and Selfridges.
Motiv plans to reinforce distribution through key accounts and department stores in the UK as well as looking for further stockists, expanding the brand network and increasing market share.
In July Guess announced expansion plans for its kidwear range in Europe with a target of 50 dedicated kidswear stores in Europe within two years.
Last year Drapers reported that Guess wanted to boost its retail operations significantly in the UK with plans to open five new stores every year for the next three years.
The denim brand and retailer posted a 9% fall in net income from $66.8m (£41m) to $60.7m (£37m) for the second quarter to July 30, although revenue rose by 17% to $677.2m (£414m), ahead of analyst expectations.
Revenue in stores open for at least a year dropped 1.9% in US dollars. The results saw a dip in the company’s shares after it gave a cautious outlook for the rest of the year.
