Handbag label Meli Melo gets backing from Venrex

Luxury handbag brand Meli Melo has secured investment from private investment firm Venrex.

Meli Melo has agreed to sell a “minority stake” in the business to the firm, which has previously backed luxury labels Smythson, Orlebar Brown and Astley Clarke.

Creative director and founder Melissa Del Bono said the partnership would add “real value” to the brand and the funding would allow it to “further develop” the product range.

Christiaan Eisberg, who joined as managing director in April 2013, added that the “first step” had been taken to turn Meli Melo into a “true lifestyle brand”.

He said: “We want to further grow our eshop while we significantly increase our wholesale network and explore exciting retail opportunities in the UK and abroad.

“We are particularly interested in the South Korean, American and Italian markets, as well as leading department stores such as Selfridges and Liberty here in the UK.”
