Hargreaves family snaps up share in womenswear brand

The family behind value retailer Matalan have bought a 50% stake in womenswear brand Damsel in a Dress, with plans to grow the brand internationally and launch standalone stores.

Maxine Hargreaves, owner of womenswear brand Fenn Wright Manson, and her father, Matalan tycoon John Hargreaves, have jointly acquired half the business.

The pair plans to build the label’s retail presence on the UK high street.

The premium womenswear brand was founded in 2010 with the aim of filling the gap between designer and top end high street products.

Co-founder Alison Mansell said: “We are delighted by the prospect of growing our retail business and will be working closely with the Hargreaves team to build the collection for a standalone retail business as well as working on an international appeal.”
