Harold Tillman to grow Aquascutum

Jaeger owner and British Fashion Council chairman Harold Tillman is poised to grow Aquascutum via international wholesale, new product categories and a transactional website after buying the luxury British heritage brand this week.

Tillman and Jaeger chief executive Belinda Earl – who together bought Aquascutum from Japanese owner Renown – told Drapers there was opportunity to grow both wholesale and retail at Aquascutum and to expand into Europe, including Russia, the Middle East and North America. They will also make the Aquascutum website transactional.

Tillman said: “The company has had considerable investment and is an outstanding brand. We plan for it to maintain a luxury position.”

Earl said pricing would be assessed and added: “There’s scope to broaden the target market.” She said accessories and giftware had huge growth potential.

Costs will be cut by sharing back office functions with Jaeger. Earl said: “We will have increased buying power and economies of scale.”
