Harriet Green rules herself out of BHS chairman job

Harriet Green, the former chief executive of Thomas Cook, has turned down an approach by the new owners of BHS to become chairman of the troubled retailer.

It was announced this morning that Retail Acquisitions has taken control of BHS from Sir Philip Green.

Upon announcing the deal, Retail Acquisitions chairman Keith Smith said the company would appoint a BHS chairman with “significant retail experience” and further retail turnaround experts in due course.

A spokesman for Retail Acquisitions confirmed Green was approached and declined to take the discussion any further.

The company is in discussions with a number of other candidates about the chairman role.
