Harvey Nichols in talks over Amsterdam opening

Luxury department store group Harvey Nichols is mulling its first continental European opening in Amsterdam.

The business is in talks with property developers Emmes, which is developing the new Marks & Spencer store in the city.

Emmes owner Martin Smit told Dutch news outlet Parool: “We are still in talks but they are heading in the right direction.”

According to the publication, the new store could be opened as early as 2015.

Harvey Nichols already has franchise branches in Kuwait, Turkey, China and Saudi Arabia and is set to open in Azerbaijan.

Harvey Nichols chief executive Joseph Wan has also suggested he is interested in opening in South Africa, telling Drapers he had visited the country twice recently.
