Hereford’s Old Market shopping centre opens

A new shopping centre, the Old Market, launched in Hereford on Thursday (May 1), taking over the former three- storey Debenhams unit.

The 310,000 sq ft open-air centre, located in the centre of the Hereford, has 18 retail outlets in total with a fashion line up including H&M, Next, Fat Face, TK Maxx and Clarks. Three retail units are still available.

Located on the site of Hereford’s former livestock market, Old Market also offers eight restaurants, a café, a six-screen Odeon cinema, 600 car parking spaces.

The scheme, which cost £90m to construct, has created 1,100 jobs.

Charles Maudsley, head of retail for landlord British Land, said: “Old Market delivers a high quality retail and leisure experience to an affluent catchment. Attracting some of the best known retailers in the UK, including the city’s only department store, Old Market will enhance footfall and keep spend in Hereford.”

He added: “The scheme opens at 96% let by area which is ahead of target and testament to the desirability of the scheme, location and catchment.”
