Hermès artistic director of womenswear exits

Christophe Lemaire, artistic director of womenswear at Hermès, is leaving his post to focus on his eponymous label.

Lemaire will present his final womenswear collection for Hermès in October during Paris Fashion Week, after four years at the brand. His replacement has not yet been named.

Hermès chief executive Axel Dumas said the brand “renewed its aesthetic” under Lemaire’s direction.

Lemaire said: “I am proud of what we have built together. My own label is growing in an important way and I now really want and need to dedicate myself to it fully.”

His eponymous brand Christophe Lemaire, which comprises both menswear and womenswear, focuses on simple, classic silhouettes. The label has one store at 28 Rue de Poitou in Paris.

Before joining Hermès, Lemaire was creative director of French sportswear brand Lacoste.
