HGA ups ante on international operations

Fashion recruitment company HGA Group is to open a Turkish office as it looks to branch overseas with its young fashion brand 18 and East.

London-headquartered HGA Group opened a second office in Japan two years ago and will open a third base in Istanbul next month.

Founder and managing director Harveen Gill said international expansion would help offset the contraction in the UK market.

“The fashion industry has gone through the roof [in Turkey],” said Gill. “The Turkish retailers we work with are expanding in the Middle East and India so we will help with those appointments.”

“Emerging and growing markets need intervention from developed markets to help push forward growth,” he added.

Additionally HGA’s women’s young fashion brand 18 and East is set for international expansion after appointing three agents in the US for spring 13. HGA has appointed agents in Dallas, LA and Atlanta but is also looking for agents in Canada and New York.

HGA also hopes to sign a licensing agreement for South Africa early next year, leading to wholesale distribution and eventually a store roll out.

Joint managing director Sue Webster said the international market was the next area of growth for the brand, having secured 65 stockists in the difficult UK market.

“We will look to emerging markets because they are much hungrier for new brands than the mature markets,” said Webster.
