High street suppliers combine

High street menswear supplier Albion has bought E Walters UK, a menswear and womenswear supplier, for an undisclosed sum.

Albion supplies both formal and casual menswear to UK multiples, supermarkets and independents, and also specialises in schoolwear. E Walters manufactures tailored menswear and womenswear for many big name UK chains. The deal was completed this month.

E Walters has an office in the UK in Leominster in Herefordshire, as well as a Chinese office. It has about 30 staff, who will remain with the firm, including general manager Terry Pritchard, who will join Albion’s board.

Albion chairman Jonathan Lowe said: “The skills from both businesses will be combined to maximise the full potential of the joint manufacturing base. We are looking to increase the profitability of both businesses, with new products and cross-sourcing. We want to expand into other areas of clothing in the long term, but will initially concentrate on menswear.”

Lowe said he was looking to acquire further businesses to complement Albion. “We will look at anything in clothing, but are concentrating on this acquisition first.”
Albion is owned by Pentakan Group, which has interests in clothing, building and leisure.
