High streets benefit from sunny weather last week

Summer weather has seen high street footfall bounce back, according to data exclusively supplied to Drapers by Springboard.

Footfall in high streets for the week to Sunday (May 18) rose 7.6% on the previous seven days, and was up 5.7% on last year.

It was not the only category to rise, with retail parks also up 2% year-on-year, although shopping centres recorded a decline of 3.5%.

The Springboard Index registered a yearly increase of 2.5%, and was up 3.5% week-on-week.

Springboard’s retail insights director Diane Wehrle said: “High streets have seen a resurgence this week… [as] the onset of summer has brought shoppers out to town centres.”
