Highcross Leicester opens

Hammerson's Highcross Leicester shopping centre opened its doors this morning.

The £350 million Highcross centre will add 322,800 sq ft of retail space or 120 shops to Leicester's retail mix. The development included a refurbishment of The Shires shopping centre which has an additional 500,000sq ft of space.

John Lewis' first store in Leicester opens at the centre today. Irish young fashion chain A-Wear will also make its UK debut at the centre.

Reiss, Henleys, All Saints, Karen Millen and Triumph will also open stores at Highcross Leicester. Guess and Levi's are the latest signings.

Highcross Leicester is the latest big shopping centre development to open this year. Liverpool One launched earlier this summer while Bristol Cabot Circus will open later this month and Westfield London in White City is scheduled to launch at the end of October.

  • The usual mix of independents showing an eclectic portfolio of brands then?
