H&M, Next and Zara in talks to acquire former BHS stores

Retailers including H&M, TK Maxx, Next, Zara and Primark are in discussions to acquire some or part of former BHS stores, Drapers understands.

A source close to the situation said there has been interest in either part or whole stores from retailers, but the majority will be taken back by landlords to be divided up or redeveloped.

“It is likely to benefit many town centres because some of these retailers will hold more of a draw,” the source said. “If you have a Next in one part and H&M in another, it is going to make that location more appealing because BHS wasn’t really cutting the mustard.

“However I’m sure there will be more than a few empty in a year or so in the less popular locations.”

Administrators Duff & Phelps, Next and H&M declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Zara’s owner Inditex said the company is always on the lookout for premium locations but could not confirm specific details.

TK Maxx and Primark have not yet responded to Drapers’ request for comment.
