September hot spell blamed for fashion sales dip at John Lewis

John Lewis has blamed unseasonably warm weather for an 8% drop in fashion sales for the week to 17 September.

Total sales at the retailer fell 0.9% compared to the same week last year, to £79.4m.

However the department store group said its new in-house womenswear brand, Modern Rarity, continued to “power ahead” and was one of the best-performing labels of the week.
