Huishan Zhang wins Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize

London-based designer Huishan Zhang was named the winner of the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize last night in a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel.

The prize, which includes £25,000, a stay at one of the Dorchester Collection Hotels and mentoring from members of the judging panel, was launched in 2010. Previous winners include Thomas Tait and Anndra Neen.

This year’s finalists, Emilia Wickstead, Barbara Casasola, Fyodor Golan and Huishan Zhang showed their spring 14 collections in a catwalk presentation, before the judges announced the winner.

The 20 members of the judging panel included Carolina Issa, Stephen Jones and Derek Blasberg.

Zhang told Drapers he would use the prize money to invest in a stronger business structure for his brand, which has recently been picked up by Barney’s New York.

“We are newly developed, so I want to make sure everything is properly looked after. For me, the recognition is incredible; we need this confidence boost as a young brand.”
