IMAGE GALLERY: GB team Olympic kit unveiled

Adidas and Stella McCartney today revealed the kit the Great British team will wear at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The kit was designed by British designer Stella McCartney, who was appointed creative director by Adidas for this project. It was revealed at the Tower of London today (March 22 ) where athletes including Jessica Ennis, Phillips Idowu and Christine Ohurougu presented the outfits.

The design focuses on the Union flag and uses the traditional red, white and blue colour palette.

McCartney said: “For me, the Union flag is one of the boldest and most iconic flags in the world. I wanted to use something that was historical and meant so much to the nation.

“I have taken this iconic image and dismantled it, softened it slightly. I needed to break it down and make it a bit more graphic and therefore more fashionable in this sense. Because it is so recognisable it allowed me to play around with it a little and take it out of its comfort zone.”
