Designer Margaret Howell has opened a standalone shop and production office in Florence.
The flagship shop, at 5R Piazza Carlo Goldoni, sells the women’s and men’s clothing collections and accessories, as well as a selection of home products and vintage furniture across two floors. The six windows overlooking the square showcase the brand’s mix of British and Italian manufacturing.
The interior has been designed by William Russell of architects Pentagram and reflects the original design Russell created for Margaret Howell’s store on Wigmore Street in London in 2002.
Howell said: “With more than half our products made in England, Piazza Goldoni displays the best of what we do in a beautiful building in the centre of Florence. Having combined office and shop in Florence will make the company closer to our Italian suppliers, as well as showing our products to an international audience.”
Some 74% of the brand’s suppliers are British and just more than half of its manufacturing is carried out in the UK.
The store is Margaret Howell’s first in Italy. The business also has a store in Paris in addition to its five UK shops.
