New Look has opened its first standalone menswear stores in Portsmouth and Wigan.
The 1,490 sq ft store in the Cascades Shopping Centre, Portsmouth, and the 1,970 sq ft unit in The Grand Arcade, Wigan, are the first of five menswear launches planned for this year.
The third store, a 1,970 sq ft shop, will open at the Merryhill shopping centre in Birmingham on October 7, followed by a fourth 1,650 sq ft shop at the Trafford Centre on October 9. The fifth location has not yet been confirmed.
New Look confirmed in August that it would open the stores to give greater prominence to its menswear collection.
The concept features a more masculine shopfit including raw and polished concrete, blackened raw steel, wired glass with rusted steel, aged copper and leather details. The stores will be “simpler and more direct in terms of design layout, fixtures and focal departments” with mannequin feature entrances, denim departments and freestanding footwear sections.
New Look said all new dual gender stores will also receive this aesthetic on the menswear side as standard.
Prices for the menswear collection range from £3.99 for belts to £89.99 for a suede jacket.
Christopher Englinde, New Look menswear director, told Drapers: “Menswear is a fundamental part of our growth strategy – our product ranges have improved over the last year with better quality and improved fits and we have further strengthened our handwriting.
“We are really proud of our latest autumn/winter collections, which are being very well received. Now is the right time to further strengthen our relationship with our customers and present our product in the best possible way by opening these new standalone stores.
“New Look Men’s great prices combined with the great products we offer help us to stand out from our competitors – the value for money with New Look menswear is fantastic.”
