IndependentBoutique.com poised to secure six-figure investment as British designer Victor Herbert joins team

Luxury etailer IndependentBoutique.com is poised to secure a six-figure sum from angel investors, as British designer Victor Herbert joins the team.

The website, which launched in May 2011, hosts more than 180 clothing and accessories names including jewellery label Tatty Devine, occasionwear brand Blank London and the British handbag label M Hulot.

Herbert, who has designed for labels such as Joseph, has joined to help founder and fellow designer Victoria Le Marquand build the business further.

He said “I’ve seen fashion change and change back over the years but quality British design has never been more in demand and IndependentBoutique.com showcases and sells that to a global audience. It’s a very powerful proposition and I’m proud to be on board with a number of others who believe in it and have backed the next stage of its growth.”

The unnamed investors are described as having “significant experience in consumer marketing, international trade and business development”.

The funding will be used to build IndependentBoutique.com’s marketing presence, develop its international fulfilment capabilities, expand into new product lines and commission exclusive ranges.

Le Marquand said: “This investment will unlock significant growth in the business as we’ll be able to capitalise on current momentum which is being further boosted by growing interest in British design and culture at home, but particularly abroad.”

She added: “We’ve seen that there is significant demand in the mid-luxury segment of fashion market where professional people with disposable income are looking for unique pieces which give them standout. Affordability is important but it’s more about the product than the price.

“This investment will give us the capital we need to push the business forward to the next level and establish it as a key online hub for our quality-focused target market.”
