Chosen by Jonny Hewlett, managing director, Diesel UK

Having been brought up in the area (and finding myself back here after a 20-year absence), the indie I admire is Aristocrat in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.
Situated at the end of the main shopping thoroughfare, there are separate men’s and women’s boutiques occupying two floors of a beautiful 16th-century building.
For the men’s store, the modern conversion gives it space and light against a traditional structure. It is meticulous and well laid-out.

The boutique carries all the heavyweights of men’s premium fashion, with Ralph Lauren, Armani (Jeans and Collezioni) and Hugo Boss (Black and Orange) all plentifully represented. Interspersed with these are Paul Smith, John Smedley, Duchamp and a good range of Diesel.

Owner Lawrence Taylor and the team combine strong expertise with real passion to help the customer get it right. Whether it’s a blow-the-budget outfit or a pair of cufflinks you’re after, you’re in safe hands.
