Indian summer helps high street sales

Like-for-like fashion sales rose by 4.42% in the week to 1 October 2018 the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker has shown.

The 4% jump compares with a -3.75% decline for the same week in 2017. In-store fashion sales were also up by 0.91% but this also once again came from a weak base of -7.88% last year.

The BDO said the sunny weather and mild conditions had had a positive effect on footfall in the last week.

Total like-for-like sales across all retail grew by 3.31%, again from a weak base of -0.99% for the same week last year.

In-store like-for-like sales were up by 0.59%, compared with a negative -5.2% for the equivalent week last year – one of the poorest-performing weeks in 2017.

Total non-store like-for-like sales were up by 15.76%, compared with 15.5% last year.
