Indies cash in on Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday generated more than £623m for independent retailers on December 5, final figures have shown.

The event, now in its third year, delivered 24% more cash for small firms than it did in 2014, an increase of £119m, the Telegraph reports.

According to Small Business Saturday research, almost half (48%) of the people who shopped at a small business on the day spent more than they would usually.

In the run up to the event, independent fashion retailers told Drapers the event had gained traction among shoppers since first launching in 2013.
