Inditex to offload Bershka flagship

Inditex-owned retailer Bershka wants to exit its 10,000 sq ft flagship on Oxford Street just two years into the lease, Drapers understands.

The Park House unit, at 460-490 Oxford Street, opened in November 2012 and is thought to still have eight years left on the lease.

Sources told Drapers that Spanish parent company Inditex was looking to offload it because trading had not met expectations.

One source said Park House’s Qatari landlords stipulated the development can only house flagship stores and wanted retailers with a “long-term commitment”. It is thought Inditex is looking for a potential replacement itself.

Women’s young fashion retailer Bershka is expected to retain its smaller store at 221-223 Oxford Street. It is also not thought to affect the 16,000 sq ft Zara flagship that also sits in Park House, at the Bond Street end of Oxford Street.

An Inditex spokeswoman declined to comment on the specifics, but said: “We constantly review our store real-estate portfolio. We see potential for Bershka in the UK either through the expansion of existing stores or new stores.”
