Intersport UK has appointed Barry Mellis as general manager.
Mellis joins the sportswear group from New Balance Athletic Shoes where he was sales director for Europe. He previously worked at Adidas for 19 years.
Mellis will replace Paul Nash who left intersport UK in August.
Mellis said: "I am delighted to join the largest sports retail group in the world and look forward very much to working with the Intersport members throughout the UK & Ireland.
"The potential for growth within Intersport UK is very exciting and I look forward to capitalising on this and to help current and new members increase their sales, profitability and competitiveness".
Intersport UK, a subsidiary of buying group AIS, has around 150 stores in the UK and Republic, selling brand including Nike and Adidas. The stores are run by as separate companies by independent retailers.
