Intu Easter footfall rises

Shopping centre operator Intu recorded a 7% rise in footfall at its centres during the Easter weekend, compared with the equivalent holiday period in 2017.

Intu said its centres attracted more than two million visitors during Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

Easter Saturday recorded the largest boost in numbers by day after drawing in a 10% increase in footfall.

In the two weeks beginning 25 March, footfall enjoyed an uplift of 2.5%. Its “super regional” centres, which include Intu Trafford Centre and Intu Lakeside, posted a 4% increase during the timeframe.

Gordon McKinnon, operations director at Intu, said: “Overall, these figures demonstrate the importance of prime retail and leisure destinations like ours, with customers wanting the very best choice of shops and brands under one roof, to enhance their all-important shopping experience.”
