Luxury womenswear label Escada is considering launching a menswear collection, according to reports.
In an interview with German national Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Escada chief executive officer Bruno Sälzer said: “I can very easily picture suits by Escada. Our plans for that are already under way and I’m testing some prototypes”.
Sälzer, who previously spent 10 years at Hugo Boss, took the traditional menswear brand in the opposite direction by launching a womenswear collection.
Earlier this year, Drapers reported that Escada was to launch a new casual sub-brand of weekend and leisure wear called Escada - White Label. The range was designed as a capsule collection of strong single pieces that are “unconstructed and seasonless” and which complement the brand’s mainline collection.
The brand has also has laid down plans to almost double its number of wholesale stockists of its sub-brand Escada Sport by 2014.
