Jack Wills bolsters team with senior hires

Jack Wills has revealed a raft of new senior appointments to enhance its capabilities and help continue its UK and overseas growth, replacing some of the departures reported by Drapers last week.

Richard Fawdry, former head of commercial operations development for Tesco in central Europe, will join Jack Wills as merchandising director in the middle of June. Jess Jeal, senior buyer at formalwear specialist Charles Tyrwhitt, will also join next month as head of products.

Other hires within the last six months include Lina Basma, previously commercial and product director at luxury womenswear brand Temperley, who has taken on the role of head of selection for the preppy young fashion retailer.

Gordon Mowat, who was on the Morrisons board as property and strategy director, has been confirmed as interim chief operating officer and transformation director on a long-term interim contract, with responsibility for the supply chain.

Jason Keegan, who was most recently on the Halfords board as supply chain director, has also joined the retailer as logistics transformation director to focus on its supply chain.

As previously reported, former USC director and Next head of brands Emma Alexander joined Jack Wills in the newly created role of chief product officer in November.

London Fashion Week designer Richard Nicoll, who was appointed as creative director in February 2014, has decided to commit more time to Jack Wills to lead its further expansion. He is not currently designing his own brand.

A company spokesman refuted claims made to Drapers last week that the retailer had made a number of changes in strategy, but acknowledged there had been some staff turnover, including five members of senior staff and a number at a level below this. Three members of staff are understood to be working out their notice.

The spokesman said staff turnover was at its lowest level for two years.

He added: “Jack Wills is in great shape. It remains a growth business with a great young brand for casualwear, pursuing global opportunities. Our ambition has evolved but not changed.”
