Jane Norman and HoF lead etail push

Jane Norman will launch a transactional website next spring, as the rest of the high street steps up its etail game.

Chief executive Saj Shah said the 160-store womenswear chain was receiving a growing number of enquiries from customers, indicating there was demand for an etail arm.

He said: “We have been focusing on growth, but now we are growing at a rate of about 20 stores a year we will look at getting online off the ground.”

This week, House of Fraser said it was aiming for online sales of £100 million within 18 months. The site, which launched a month ago, has already had 500,000 hits. The average transaction value is 25% ahead of that in stores.

Meanwhile, Bhs added womenswear and menswear to its online offer last week. Further clothing ranges are expected to be rolled out later in the year. Value retailer Peacocks also launched its etail site last month.
