Jason Tarry to become Tesco CEO for UK and Ireland

Jason Tarry, currently group chief product officer at Tesco, will become chief executive for UK and Republic of Ireland at the supermarket, after Charles Wilson steps down.

Wilson has been diagnosed with throat cancer following an operation to remove his tonsils in April this year. He has been undergoing radiotherapy during May and June and responded well to the treatment but has decided to step down given the nature of the illness.

He will step down from his CEO role and from the PLC board but remain on the Tesco executive committee, where he will continue to report to Dave Lewis.

Andrew Yaxley, who is currently the CEO of Ireland, will be promoted to group chief product officer and join the Tesco executive committee. Both Tarry and Yaxley will report to Dave Lewis, with all changes effective from 16 July.

Tarry joined Tesco in 1990 on a graduate recruitment scheme and has held a number of positions in both food and non-food divisions, including chief executive of group clothing.
