JD eyes Bank stores for mini-chain Ark

JD Sports Fashion is looking to snap up “two or three” shops from defunct young fashion chain Bank for its multi-brand retailer Ark.

The sportswear giant sold Bank to a subsidiary of Hilco Capital in November last year. The chain went into administration six weeks later on January 5.

A spokesman said JD Sports is now considering buying two or three of the sites back for Ark, the mini-chain it acquired out of administration in June 2013, although nothing has been confirmed.

Ark has seven stores in Derby, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Castleford and York. The shops are around 2,000 sq ft in size.

Administrator Deloitte has closed the majority of Bank’s 84 shops, with the remaining nine due to shut over the course of this month.

An update on the sale of Bank’s intellectual property, including its domain name, customer database and in-house fashion brands, is expected next week.
