JD Sports is in advanced talks to acquire 189 shops from two Dutch sportswear chains, in a bid to boost its retail footprint in the Netherlands.

If the deal goes ahead the British retailer would buy 58 Perry Sport and 131 Aktiesport stores, both of which are part of parent company Unlimited Sports Group.
The acquisition is subject to approval from Dutch regulator The Netherlands Authority of Consumers and Markets (ACM), as JD Sports already has 16 JD shops and one for its footwear and clothing fascia Size? in the Netherlands.
A spokeswoman for JD Sports told Drapers: “We can confirm we are in advanced discussions with the trustee of Unlimited Sports Group and these discussions have led to the necessity for the application that has been made to the ACM for approval. We will release a further update at the appropriate time.”
When JD Sports opened its Oxford Street flagship last July, executive chairman Peter Cowgill revealed ambitions to open a store in every major city in Europe.
