JD Sports on track for full year growth

JD Sports Fashion’s in store and online sales are growing in line with the firm’s expectations, the retailer’s executive chairman Peter Cowgill has said.

Ahead of the JD Sports AGM on 29 June Cowgill said margins have been squeezed but the business is performing in line with expectations: “Whilst we have faced some anticipated margin pressure in achieving the sales growth, the board considers that the Group is currently on track to deliver a result for the full year in line with market expectations.

“We also believe that our highly differentiated multibrand offer, combined with an attractive and dynamic presentation instore and online, gives the Group continuing competitive advantage.”

Cowgill said the timing of Eid this year had led to the chain adjusting the timing of its Sale which will affect year on year comparisons but this should have evened out by the end of the first half of the financial year.

So far in 2017 JD has opened 28 new stores including its first two stores in Australia and a further two stores in Malaysia.
