JD Sports signs on Scotland flagship

JD Sports has signed a ten year lease for a 30,000 sq ft flagship store at the St Enoch Centre, Glasgow, in a move that will see the retailer open one of its largest stores in the UK.

The store, formerly occupied by Gap, is due to open later this year and will see JD join the likes of Debenhams, Topshop, Topman, H&M and Superdry.

St Enoch is Glasgow’s largest shopping centre at 830,000 sq ft and attracts nearly 20 million visitors a year.

The site was acquired in October 2013 by real estate funds managed by Blackstone, with its partner, Sovereign Land, as asset and development manager.

Paul Bailey, asset manager for Sovereign Land, added that they are in “advanced talks with other major UK & European retailers to open flagship stores.
