Both companies are valued at £2.2bn on the stock market but it is thought that JD will surpass Sports Direct as profits are expected to jump 60% to £142m, while sales will be up 17% to £1.73bn, according to The Telegraph.

Rival Sports Direct issued a profit warning in January following a mild autumn season.
