JD takes majority stake in outdoor retailer Tiso

JD Sports Fashion has taken a controlling stake in outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Tiso.

The “strategic” partnership will see Tiso, which has 10 stores in Scotland, joining JD’s outdoor fascia that includes Blacks and Millets, which it bought out of administration last year.

JD chairman Peter Cowgill will take over as chairman of Tiso. Chief executive Chris Tiso will remain in his current position, with the business contining to be headquartered in Edinburgh, and the Tiso family will retain a significant shareholding in the company.

The investment will significantly reduce Tiso’s bank debt and enable the business to be recapitalised, developing existing businesses which include Alpine Bikes, George Fisher and Blues the ski shop.
