JD Williams has announced plans to transfer around 550 jobs at its Manchester-based contact centre this month to outsourcing company, Serco, in a bid to keep up with a shift in online trading and communication.
The move follows what Serco described as a “thorough review” to allow JD Williams to adapt to the ways in which customers get in contact, which now includes social media and web chat.
By transferring existing staff to Serco, the N Brown-owned retailer said it has been able to “retain people skills, knowledge and years of experience,” as well as protect jobs while meeting the growing needs of the business and customers.
Serco confirmed employees will remain in the current offices at Martin House and has committed to refurbishing the space.
JD Williams said this was not a decision taken lightly and it will do everything it can to work with colleagues through the transition.
