JJB sales rise

Like-for-like sales at JJB Sports rose 1.6% for the 17 weeks to November 25 2007.

Like-for-like sales at the stores rose 1.4% for the period, and 0.5% overall. Total group sales were also up 1.6%.

Gross margin rose “slightly higher” than the recent 380 basis points improvement for the eight weeks to September 23, according to the company.

JJB Sports said that the England team’s exit from the finals of the Euro 2008 competition would not have any impact on the results of the current accounting period to the end of January 2008.

But it added that it was not expecting any incremental revenues from Euro 2008, for the next accounting period. Non-executive chairman Roger Lane-Smith said: “We continue to be cautious about the retail market outlook both in the run up to Christmas and into 2008”.
