John Galliano to chair Fashion Fringe

John Galliano will replace Donatella Versace as the chairman of designer competition Fashion Fringe this September.

Galliano, whose womenswear collection showed in Paris last week, will chair Fashion Fringe for two years, heading up the judging panel.

Fashion Fringe is an annual competition set up in 2003 to support up and coming British and Irish design talent. The winner receives £100,000 plus mentoring and business support.

Previous winners of Fashion Fringe have included Erdem, Basso & Brooke, Jena.Theo and Eun Jeong Hong.

Galliano said: “I am hoping we find a rebel genius. I will look for someone who reminds me of me when I was starting out - someone original, unique, who has their own style and handwriting and isn’t afraid to try something new.”

The application process for this year’s Fashion Fringe opened today. Interested designers can apply through the website.
