John Lewis best retailer for work/life balance

John Lewis has been ranked as the top fashion retailer in Britain for work/life balance, as rated by employees.

The department store retailer came in seventh place, out of 15 employers across all sectors in the UK, in a list compiled by global job website Indeed, based on millions of employee reviews posted.

Transport for London came in top place, with Apple leading the way in the private sector.

According to the study, employees no longer see salary as the most important factor in a job, with work/life balance now taking priority for many. A good work/life balance incorporates aspects such as good holiday allocation, sympathetic working hours and the ability to leave work at the office.

Indeed UK managing director Bill Richards said: “Millennials in particular are aware that they are likely to have to work for longer than previous generations, so they appreciate the need to enjoy what they are doing as well as where and with whom they are doing it.

“People remain the most important asset in business, so attracting good staff and allowing them to perform at their best should be deemed a priority, not an afterthought, and ensuring you promote a good work/life balance is central to this.”
