Sales at John Lewis rose 6% week-on-week for the week ended December 13 but fell 4% on last year.
John Lewis said that it had a record day online on Mega Monday (December 8), which contributed to the sales uplift. Sales of technology were also a major factor in the increase.
John Lewis said that the week to December 13 had beaten its peak week in 2006.
John Lewis director of selling operations Dan Knowles said: "We are confident that John Lewis has maintained its position as a market leader over the festive period, with an innovative and inspiring product assortment and our price promise which customers know they can trust."
